Programm: John Chowning Turenas (1972) Phoné (1980-81) György Ligeti Artikulation (1958) Karlheinz Stockhausen Gesang der Jünglinge (1955) Jonathan Harvey Mortuos Plango, Vivos Voco (1980) Klarenz Barlow Approximating Pi (2007) Helmut W. Erdmann György Ligeti komponierte in den Jahren 1957 und 58 bald nach seiner Flucht in den Westen zwei Stücke im elektronischen Studio des WDR in Köln unter Anleitung und Assistenz von Karlheinz Stockhausen, Gottfried Michael Koenig und Cornelius Cardew. Seine Komposition „Artikulation“ gilt dabei als ein Meisterwerk der analogen Tonbandmusik und wurde von Rainer Wehinger in eine berühmte Hörpartitur übersetzt. In dem Ligeti gewidmeten Konzert sollen auch das bahnbrechende Werk „Gesang der Jünglinge“ von Stockhausen, sowie zwei Werke von John Chowning erklingen, der Ligeti 1972 an der Stanford Universität in die Welt der digitalen Klangsynthese und -verräumlichung eingeführt hatte. Jonathan Harvey bezieht sich in seinem spektralen Werk Mortuos Plango, Vivos Voco wiederum auf Stockhausen, während der von Ligeti geschätzte Komponist Klarenz Barlow, der auch bei Stockhausen studierte, mit Approximating Pi eine digitale Komposition zu einem zahlentheoretischen Phänomen zum Programm beisteuert. Unser Kollege Helmut W. Erdmann schließlich wirkt seit den 70er Jahren an der HfMT und hat mit seinen Konzertreihen der Elektronischen Musik, die auch seine eigene Musik einschließt, einen beispiellosen Dienst erwiesen. Ins das Konzert führen ein John Chowning, Cat Hope und Georg Hajdu. Soon after his escape to the West, György Ligeti composed two pieces in 1957 and 58 in the electronic studio of the WDR in Cologne under the guidance and assistance of Karlheinz Stockhausen, Gottfried Michael Koenig and Cornelius Cardew. His composition "Artikulation" is considered a masterpiece of analog tape music and was translated into a famous audio score by Rainer Wehinger. The concert dedicated to Ligeti will also feature the groundbreaking work "Gesang der Jünglinge" by Stockhausen, as well as two works by John Chowning, who, in 1972, introduced Ligeti to the world of digital sound synthesis and spatialization at Stanford University. Jonathan Harvey in turn refers to Stockhausen in his spectral work Mortuos Plango, Vivos Voco, while composer Klarenz Barlow, who was esteemed by Ligeti and also studied with Stockhausen, contributes Approximating Pi, a digital composition on a number-theoretical phenomenon, to the program. Finally, we will include a piece by our colleague Helmut W. Erdmann who has been working at the HfMT since the 1970s and has done an unparalleled service to electronic music with his concert series.
