Der brasilianische Schlagzeuger und Komponist Rafa Müller, den es zum Studieren nach Hamburg gezogen hat, gründete dort auch sein Quintett. Mit von der Partie sind der schwedische Trompeter Bjorn Atle Anﬁnsen, der russische Saxophonist Kamil Husyainov sowie die deutschen Musiker Jonas Oppermann am Piano und Friedrich Betz am Bass. Markenzeichen: markante Melodien und gewichtige Grooves, die das Risiko im Zusammenspiel nicht scheuen. Müllers Drums oszillieren dabei zwischen meditativ-spirituellen und kraftvoll-energetischen Rhythmen, die ihre Einflüsse gleichermaßen aus Hard Bop, Free Jazz, südbrasilianischer Volksmusik und Bossa Nova ziehen und bereits beim Schreibprozess die besonderen Klangfarben der Mitmusiker berücksichtigen.
